The Crate Label Paintings
An American Still Life Argument
For 250 years, American still life painters have insisted that ordinary objects deserve serious attention. The Crate Label Paintings continue that argument: the crate label is always the primary subject, the glass secondary, the flowers - deliberately ordinary - tertiary. A recurring blue shadow ties the series together as a single sustained argument.
